The given research has been dedicated to studying of etymological peculiarities of “Dwelling” semantic field synonymic rows in historical aspect.

The topic of semantic fields has been studied by a number of popular linguists, such as Sossure F., Levitskiy V.V., Makovskiy M.M. and others. The results of their studies are reflected in the named research. At the same time, the common level of literature on the problem discussed, leaves some spheres understudied, especially it concerns peculiar semantic fields, such as Dwelling field. Some theoretical and historical-etymological problems also need thorough study.

Actuality of the given work is determined by its topic being understudied.

Novelty of the research consists in the fact that the problem has been firstly studied from the synonymic row point of view.

The aim of research is expressed in studying peculiarities of Dwelling semantic fields synonymic rows in English language.

The given aim presupposes the following objects:

  • to overview the definition of semantic field;
  • to develop the English dwelling history;
  • to analyze the Dwelling semantic field;
  • to sort out synonymic rows in the field.

Dwelling semantic field served as an object of our research.

Synonymic rows, as corresponding to the etymology dictionary, appear to be the subject of research.

Cultural-historical method, continuous sampling method and typological approach, as well as system-structural and opposition methods have been used in the analysis.

Work structure. The paper consists of the introduction, two main paragraphs, conclusion and references.

In the introduction, the actuality, subject, aims, objects are given, methods of research are listed and the structure of the work is mentioned.

In the first paragraph the definition of semantic field is revealed, as well as a few of other following notions.

In the second paragraphs, the Dwelling semantic field is analyzed, with certain percentage given and semantic rows traced.

In the conclusion the results of the research are summed up.
